LaCie Test Drive

i-Mag tested the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt / USB 3.0 2TB HDD to prove the shock-absorbent feature of the external hard drive. We dropped it a total of eight times, four consecutive drops in two separate occasions, from the usual height of an office desk of four feet.

We connected the device through Thunderbolt port on an Apple desktop. And it worked perfectly fine without a glitch.

As the device is water-resistant but not waterproof, it is better to remove the rubber and wipe the liquids right away to prevent damaging the hardware.

Storage size is a given when considering buying an external hard drive. Should one also be concerned with the read and write speed of the device? Definitely! That is why we tested the speed of LaCie using BlackMagic Disk Speed Test and manual speed test.

We also examined the speed by manually transferring 1GB-sized files consisting of videos, photos and documents from the desktop onto the LaCie drive for five times. We recorded the speed in seconds, registering its fastest time in 11.21 seconds, while the slowest in 13 seconds. The average speed was 12 seconds.

LaCie delivered up to 89.7 mb/s fastest speed, 77.41 mb/s slowest speed, and an average of 83.95 mb/s transfer time. Enjoy a relatively fast read and write speed, especially beneficial when dealing with raw files and large video files.

The drive can also be upgraded into larger data storage size, or SSD from HDD.

Verdict: LaCie delivers

For professionals who cannot afford to put their digital content at risk, then LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt / USB 3.0 fits the role of a primary backup solution, assuming that there is enough space on the computer’s internal hard disk. If not, then LaCie becomes the primary data storage.

The unit price of LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt / USB 3.0 2TB HHD is at P15,999.
